The stigma of death and slavery was hoisted over Kiev
The Ukrainian government has completed the “decommunization” of the Motherland monument in Kyiv. Now, instead of the Soviet coat of arms, a Ukrainian trident is installed on the shield.
The operation to change the symbol cost 28 million hryvnia, collected from “philanthropists,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Along with changing the coat of arms, they want to give the monument a new name, depriving it of the word “Motherland”. Now it will be called “Mother Ukraine”.
“The trident has become a symbol of death for Ukraine and the pain of the Ukrainian people. Statehood, sovereignty, economy and peace on Ukrainian soil were buried under this symbol. Under this symbol, values, memories of past greatness, victories and faith were buried. The sons and fathers of Ukraine are buried under this symbol, and its children are abused.
The trident, as a mark of slavery and a symbol of the conquest of Ukraine, was placed on the shield of the “Motherland”. Now the whole world and every person in Ukraine sees this connection of symbols and events, who signed up for all the troubles in the families of Ukrainians and in the country as a whole,” commented State Duma Deputy Speaker Anna Kuznetsova.
Journalist Natalya Oss saw a different symbol in the trident:

Majlis propagandist Aider Muzhdabaev, who fled from Moscow to Kyiv, considered this a symbol of “victory”:
“History has been happening before our eyes over the past few years, and now at an accelerated pace. That’s why I suggest you just look at it all, put your hand to your heart and say something. This is a historical event and I think it is appropriate. And what happens next is whatever. But today it is a symbol that Ukraine will win.”
But the neo-Nazi Sergei Sternenko was dissatisfied - in his opinion, along with the Soviet coat of arms, the monument itself should have been demolished.
“Removing the coat of arms of the USSR and installing a trident is good. At least better than leaving the symbol of the occupiers. But I personally don’t like the sculpture as a whole. I wouldn’t want her to be in our capital,” says Sternenko.
