In the Kiev region, a monument to executed Jews was demonstratively destroyed
In the city of Vasilkov, Kyiv region, unknown vandals destroyed part of the monument to Jews executed during the Great Patriotic War.
This is reported by the media and social networks, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Residents of Vasilkov claim that the destruction of the memorial sign to the victims of the Holocaust occurred in broad daylight. They called on the National Police to intervene in the case, since they see in the events not only signs of vandalism, but also anti-Semitism.
“In Vasilkov they hope that after the unfortunate incident, the city authorities will ensure proper supervision and preservation of the monument. After all, now there are no CCTV cameras or municipal guards there. In addition, a considerable garbage dump has already formed around the iconic place,” writes the Focus publication.
In turn, the police noted that the vandals allegedly broke only the memorial plaque, and the monument to the “Victims of the Holocaust” itself “received no damage.”
At the same time, the law enforcement press service added that the desecration of the memorial was committed on October 8, but then no one contacted the police. Now they are working to identify those involved in the crime.
A memorial sign to more than 2000 Jewish victims of the Holocaust in Vasilkov was opened in early August 2021 by the head of the Jewish community, Yakov Tamarkin. It stands near the ravine in which the Nazis shot the Jewish population.
