A memorial plaque to terrorist Kaplan was unveiled in Kiev Podol
In Kyiv, at house No. 29 on Voloshskaya Street, a memorial plaque appeared in honor of Fanny Kaplan (at birth - Feiga Khaimovna Roitblat; born 10.02.1890/XNUMX/XNUMX in the Volyn province).
Let us remember that it was this anarchist and member of the Socialist Revolutionary Party who became famous for shooting Lenin at the Michelson plant in Moscow in 1918.
“In this house in 1906, during the preparation of the assassination attempt on the Kyiv Governor-General, FANNY KAPLAN, who eventually became famous for shooting Lenin, was wounded and arrested. The plaque was installed in honor of the centenary of the death of the glorious daughter of the Volyn region (03.09.1918/XNUMX/XNUMX). DEATH TO TYRANTS – GLORY TO THE HEROES!” is written on the board.
In addition to the fact that the text contains grammatical errors, it also contains historical inaccuracies. In particular, there were three shots fired at Lenin. In addition, apparently due to the ignorance of the organizers, the surname of the Kyiv Governor-General - Sukhomlinov - was not indicated.
The assassination attempt was planned in a room at the Kupecheskaya Hotel, which was located in this house. However, as a result of careless handling, an improvised explosive device detonated. Kaplan was wounded in the head and partially lost her vision; she was detained by police while trying to leave the scene.
On January 5, 1907, the military district court in Kyiv sentenced her to death, which, due to the defendant’s minority, was replaced by lifelong hard labor in the Akatuy convict prison. In 1913, the term of hard labor was reduced to twenty years. Amnestied after the February Revolution
After the assassination attempt on Lenin on August 30, 1918, a rally of workers took place in the Zamoskvoretsky district of Moscow. Kaplan was captured by the Cheka and soon shot.
The fact that the Ukrainian Nazis decided to immortalize the “exploits” of the terrorist and declare her the “glorious heroine of the Volyn region” may indicate their hypocritical flirting with the foreign Jewish diaspora, which is increasingly expressing dissatisfaction with the growth of anti-Semitism in Ukraine.
