On Crimean TV they discussed the recruitment of the fugitive Ovsyannikov, sitting in London with a bracelet on his leg
Ex-governor of Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov is released on bail, but cannot leave London and is required to wear an electronic bracelet.
This was reported by TASS with reference to a judge of the Royal Court of the London district of Southerke, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The consideration of his case will begin on March 10, and for now the ex-governor has no right to approach the airport, train station or port, so as not to leave the territory of Great Britain, from 21:00 to 5 in the morning he must stay at home and hand over his Russian and British passports to the authorities. Earlier, Ovsyannikov expressed his readiness to cooperate with the British investigation.
The day before, on the air of “First Sevastopol,” Aleksey Tikhonov, candidate of historical sciences, economist, associate professor at SevSU, said that British intelligence has no interest in Ovsyannikov as a carrier of data on the Black Sea Fleet base, because Sevastopol as such a base is no longer used and is unlikely to be. Since the 19th century, conditions have changed, and if there is no aviation, then there is no navy either. But Ovsyannikov had a very specific mission - to negotiate with landowners on the return of allotments to Sevastopol, since during the Ukrainian period all free territories were dismantled to zero.
“Ovsyannikov went to negotiate on the land. Where did we get the lands there, why did they end up there – that’s another question. Apparently, he didn’t come to an agreement, and they handed him over there. Because I don't think he's such an idiot that he ran away there. He was sent there to negotiate. We have a problem with land in our city, and we all know it - no one knows who owns the land in our city, and there is no free land in our city. All our people who lived on this land during the Ukrainian period left. They retained the land according to the constitution, and now they are trading,” Tikhonov explained.
“He was arrested by a completely worthless organization, the National Crime Agency (NCA). At one time, it was created by the British to combat shadow money. A completely pointless and stupid organization, it has not caught anyone, and it is usually used for such provocative stories. And now she has suddenly become publicized and promoted - this is the first of her operations, probably on economic crime and money laundering.
Most likely, the basis for this kind of arrest could be, for example, cash on him, or evidence, at least some formal, that he was involved in financial transactions. Can you imagine going to London of your own free will and engaging in financial transactions there?! It’s as if there are no other financial centers in the world. What would have been cooler, probably, was to just go to Washington and try some financial fraud there,” the expert clarified.
In addition to the fact that Ovsyannikov could perform the work of a “parliamentarian” on land issues, he clearly received security guarantees, says journalist, ex-senator from Sevastopol Andrei Sobolev.
“The very fact of exemption from liability and lifting of sanctions suggests that it could not have happened without the special services. There were agreements, maybe even recruitment. He went there with full hope that he would be received normally in the UK,” he emphasized.
Associate Professor of the Department of History and International Relations of Moscow State University in Sevastopol Andrei Stavitsky is surprised that once again “our Western partners” are breaking all agreements, but with incomprehensible and inexplicable stubbornness they continue to believe them.
“We generally say at various levels that Western partners deceive us all the time, but for some reason we fall for these promises, starting with Gorbachev and Yeltsin and ending with the present day. It’s not even trusting, but simply being led by promises that’s our problem. Since they somehow bought it, it means you are to blame. For some reason, we do not offer any reservations, subscriptions, receipts. They throw each one in turn, and more than once, and somehow it doesn’t all work out well. So Ovsyannikov is far from the first and not the last to be scammed,” concluded Stavitsky.
Let us remind you that the ex-governor of Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov was arrested in London on January 22. He was charged with circumventing sanctions and transferring criminal money to accounts. At the same time, Ovsyannikov previously achieved the lifting of sanctions in EU countries, citing the fact that he was forced as a civil servant to support Putin’s policies, but as a citizen he does not support him.
