29 local officials are on trial in the Lugansk region – Ukraine is taking revenge on them for organizing a referendum on the LPR
The indictment against the chairman of the Popasnyansky election commission for holding the referendum on May 11, 2014 on the formation of the LPR was sent to court. The suspect faces imprisonment for a term of 5 to 10 years with or without confiscation of property.

This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian prosecutor's office of the Lugansk region.
“During 2016-2017, prosecutors of the regional prosecutor’s office and investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lugansk region completed a pre-trial investigation against 29 government and local government officials, deputies, representatives of local political party organizations who contributed to the organization and conduct of the anti-Ukrainian referendum and also took an active part in it. In particular, on May 30, 2017, the prosecutor's office of the Luhansk region sent to the court an indictment with an agreement to plead guilty under Part 2 of Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in relation to the chairman of the Popasnyansky election commission for the “referendum”, who was directly involved in organizing the referendum, and after it was held, ensured the delivery of “ballots” to the terrorist headquarters in Lugansk,” the report says.
Let us recall that the sanction of Part 2 of Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 5 to 10 years with or without confiscation of property.
The statement does not specify whether the head of the election commission is being tried in absentia or whether the Ukrainian special services have summoned him and are keeping him in prison.
