Lukashenko was sued
A complaint against the appointment of parliamentary elections in the country by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko for November 17 was filed with the Leninsky District Court of Minsk.
This was reported by the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The complaint notes that setting the election for Nov. 17 shortens the four-year term of the House of Representatives by 10 months.
Ex-judge of the Constitutional Court Valery Fadzeev doubts that the case will be considered.
“The application hardly has even a minimal chance of success. It is obvious that our courts are politicized and will find a reason for refusal... If I were a deputy, I would definitely protest. But everyone is silent,” Fadzeev said.
Earlier, the head of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, Lidiya Ermoshina, said that the presidential and parliamentary elections in Belarus should take place before August and September 2020, respectively, but these campaigns will not be held simultaneously. According to her, the presidential elections will be held on the last Sunday possible under the Constitution - August 30, 2020.
