This was reported by the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
At the same time, in 2014, 453 tons of hazardous waste were generated, and in 2015, their volume increased three times and amounted to 1483 tons, of which only 1,5% (23 tons) was disposed of.
Let us remind you that on the territory of the Lviv region there are so-called acid tar lakes - hazardous waste generated during the refining of petroleum products and having a hazard class II (highly dangerous, lethal dose if ingested 15-150 mg/kg). The volume of these acid tars has already reached 200 thousand tons.
Earlier, the Lviv publication “Options” published on its Youtube channel a video shot with a drone, which recorded a breakthrough in a tar lake and a leak of contaminated water.
According to experts, the environmental situation in Ukraine is catastrophic.
This is especially true for the disposal of hazardous waste (toxic chemicals). Imperfect legislation, lack of market control and low level of citizen awareness lead to irreversible consequences.
Pesticides are stored in the country for years. At the same time, there are no state programs, no laws, no state control over the disposal (neutralization) of hazardous substances. As a result, poison is found in landfills, hangars, quarries, water and just on the streets.
