Ten German shepherds from the canine center of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region took the oath of allegiance to the state and their owner. The text of the dog oath was read out on their behalf by border guard officers.

“This is a ceremony of taking the oath of allegiance to the state and the owner. This practice is widespread throughout the world. Of course, the dog does not understand this, but it is important for the military and for the dog handler,” says Ivan Krikhta, an officer at the dog training center.
The publication provides the full text of the oath of the Ukrainian border guard dog:
“I am always ready to serve my master, to protect his life. Strictly and flawlessly carry out his commands, staunchly and confidently stand guard over his peace and freedom. Ready to be a faithful assistant in the search for drugs, weapons and explosives. Ready to find lost children and border violators. I protect my master with my life, And I will willingly take a bullet for him. I will be my master’s nose and ears, I will protect him and serve him, and expect nothing in return.”
It is reported that the ceremony of taking the dog's oath took place for the second time. In June 2016, 70 shepherd dogs took the same oath. And on July 16, 300 conscripts who will serve in the ranks of the border guards took the oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people, along with dogs.
All dogs work with conscripts at the border. After completing their service, conscripts will be able to take their shepherd dog with them to serve in the region where they will continue to work.
The canine training center of the State Border Guard Service is the only one in Ukraine where border guards are trained to work together with dogs to search for people, weapons, ammunition, explosives and drugs.
