Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko announced this.
“Today, the new prosecutor of the Lviv region conducted more than a dozen searches of forestry workers in the region. Finally, those who sell Ukrainian round timber to the EU under the guise of firewood are being brought to justice,” Lutsenko wrote on his Facebook page.
“The formal losses in the case are 6,5 million,” the prosecutor general said.
“In reality we are talking about ecocide of the Carpathians. Centuries-old spruce trees are put under the knife and dressed as firewood,” Lutsenko emphasized. “Therefore, task #1 of the new prosecutor of Transcarpathia appointed today and his Western Ukrainian colleagues is to stop timber smuggling,” he said.
