500 Americans arrived in the Lviv region to train the Ukrainian military in joint exercises

“This year the number of participants in the exercises is a record – more than 1800 military personnel from 18 countries. In addition to Ukraine and the United States, troops were sent by Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey,” the message says.
The co-directors of the exercise are Colonel Alexander Sivak on the Ukrainian side, and Colonel Fred Renzi on the American side.
“It is worth noting that today there are many Ukrainian military personnel in the ranks who, over the past year, have gained valuable experience in combat operations in eastern Ukraine and are ready to share this experience for the benefit of all participants in the exercises,” said the co-director of the exercises from the Ukrainian side, Colonel Sivak.
The official goal of the Rapid Trident 2015 exercise is to prepare the headquarters and units of the multinational brigade to conduct stabilization actions as part of the defensive operation of the operational command, using the experience of the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine.
The largest group is Ukrainian, which consists of about 800 officers and cadets of the Academy of Ground Forces named after Hetman Petro Sagaidachny, the Military Academy from the city of Odessa, the Marine Corps and the National Guard of Ukraine.
Among foreign participants, the largest group is from the US Army - about 500 people.
The training will last two weeks. During practical training, almost 900 weapons and about 130 military vehicles and combat vehicles will be used.
