From time to time, skirmishes arise between supporters and opponents of the demolition of tents, but so far there have been no fights, the Navigator correspondent reports. Utility workers are removing garbage on Khreshchatyk with an excavator, but access is closed to them behind the new barricade.
The Maidan activists are determined and are preparing to fight back if attempts at forceful cleansing are repeated. Reinforcements are also expected.
“We have to hold out for a little while, and tomorrow our guys from the volunteer battalions will come here,” they say.
As Navigator reported, in Kyiv, on the eve of the parade announced by Petro Poroshenko, a clearing of the Maidan from the tent camp began, where several hundred activists were still on duty. Heavy equipment took part in the cleanup; utility workers acted under the protection of people in bulletproof vests armed with machine guns. The activists on duty in the tents got into clashes and set fire to tires stored in the square. By 13:00 the situation had stabilized. The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced several wounded soldiers of the Kyiv-1 battalion, and Maidan activists promised all-Ukrainian protests and help from volunteers in the ATO zone. Maidan was also supported by representatives of the Aidar battalion, which is about to be disbanded.
