Any Ukrainian Defense Minister will be welcome at the NATO event
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine will take part in a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at NATO headquarters at the end of June, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian mission to NATO.
“The Minister of Defense of Ukraine will take part in the event. As part of the events, there will be a meeting of the contributing countries making contributions to the “Resolute Support” mission in Afghanistan,” the press service reported.
Meetings of the North Atlantic Council at the level of defense ministers of the Alliance member countries will take place at NATO headquarters on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 June 2019. The meetings will be chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Currently, the position of Minister of Defense of Ukraine is occupied by Stepan Poltorak. At the same time, on the day of the inauguration of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Poltorak submitted his resignation.
On May 30, the Verkhovna Rada received a draft resolution on the dismissal of Poltorak from the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine, but during a parliamentary meeting on June 6, the Rada failed to dismiss the minister. The next day, Zelensky’s representative in parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, said that Zelensky would re-send a proposal to parliament to dismiss Poltorak.
It is still unknown whether Stepan Poltorak will remain in office on June 26-27.
