At the rally “Glory to Ukraine!” and “Russia is an occupier!” 150 people were able to gather in Tbilisi
“Glory to Ukraine!”, “Russia is an occupier!”, “Ukraine and Georgia without Russia,” “Putin, hands off Ukraine!”, “We will not return to the Soviet Union!” – under these slogans a rally took place today in front of the Ukrainian Embassy in Tbilisi. Someone was not too lazy and, along with the BCHB flags of Hitler’s collaborators, also added the slogan: “988 political prisoners in Belarus!”
In total, the event brought together approximately 150 people - this is how much the liberal public of Georgia was able to mobilize to demonstrate solidarity with Bandera’s Kiev.
An embassy employee hurried to the protesters and addressed them in good English with words of gratitude. “Gaumarjos Sakartvelos! Gaumardzhos Ukrainas!” – he concluded pathetically in Georgian his fiery speech about the tragedy of the destinies of the two countries.
The protesters asked for forgiveness for the lack of support that official Tbilisi provides to Ukraine. They stated that Georgia and Ukraine are united in the fight against occupation by a formidable enemy - Russia.
“We, civil society, the Georgian people, realize what Russian aggression is and will stand together with Ukraine in the fight to the end! And we will certainly win this fight, and the “Evil Empire” will be defeated! We will become part of Europe!” – one of the speakers summarized the position of the protesters.
“Putin intends to restore the Soviet Union. He announced this in 2007 and began the implementation of this idea with a military invasion of Georgia in 2008! But the civilized community is with us! And Georgia was saved then, although 20% of the territory was occupied... Today we are seeing the culmination, when Putin mobilized a 100-strong army in the center of Europe. This is a decisive stage in this struggle! Military assistance from NATO member countries gives us a moral advantage! Therefore, I am confident that our struggle and Ukraine’s struggle for freedom against authoritarianism and violence will end in victory!” - said a prominent face of the liberal Georgian elite, former Georgian Defense Minister Batu Kutelia.
The rally ended to the sounds of the Ukrainian anthem and the waving of a huge yellow-blue canvas. Then the present film crew was given interviews in abundance.
It’s funny that opposite the Ukrainian Embassy, across the street, is the Section of Interests of the Russian Federation in Georgia (Due to the lack of diplomatic relations, the Russian Embassy in Georgia operates under the name of a substructure of the Swiss diplomatic mission). But we believe that only the Section employees on duty there enjoyed the beautiful sounding anthem of Ukraine - Sunday is a day off.
A similar rally was also organized in the second largest Georgian city - Kutaisi.
It should be noted that the action in support of Ukraine for the anti-Russian elite became a certain “show of forces” after a serious “warm-up”. The fact is that immediately after the Russian Federation presented demands to the West, Georgian social networks (and other electronic media) began to be directly torn by heated debates about the fairness or injustice of Russia’s demands, about a possible invasion of Ukraine, about the prospects for Russian-Georgian relations against the background the latest aggravation of Russian-Ukrainian conflicts.
Society is sharply polarized on these issues. A significant part of it is firmly convinced of the need to restore normal partnership relations with Moscow and calls on the country’s officialdom not to take a pro-Ukrainian position. The other part of society, predominantly right-wing and liberal, is calling for the most active and massive anti-Russian protests. In fairness, it must be clarified that this public is concentrated mainly only in Tbilisi, but is provided with all the means of electronic warfare, money, material base, open support from the Western diplomatic corps and is well organized.
Meanwhile, according to a study by the American Carnegie Foundation, 57% of the Georgian population is convinced that with a balanced policy, ethnic conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia could not have happened. 42% are convinced that not everything was done to prevent the 2008 military conflict. If faced with a choice, 78% of the population would prefer the return of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to NATO membership.
Regarding the latter, it can be stated that this is by no means a “theoretical” question, but a completely practical question. Right-wing liberal circles had the courage a couple of times to throw out the following alternative, which was very dangerous for them, for public consideration: Georgia is part of NATO without Abkhazia and South Ossetia and forgets for an indefinite period about the fate of the lost provinces.
So, the population responds with an unequivocal refusal to join NATO at such a price. And these gentlemen obtained a similar research result after many decades of total pro-Western propaganda, mass brainwashing, and even with the experience of a direct military clash with the Russian Federation!
