They don’t give a damn about the opinions of residents: the Verkhovna Rada renamed Kirovograd
Nationalists in the Verkhovna Rada, citing the law on decommunization, without any discussion in the hall, renamed the city of Kirovograd to “Kropyvnytskyi,” despite the fact that previously the majority of local residents, during a consultative survey, had chosen the pre-revolutionary name Elisavetgrad.

Speaker Andrey Parubiy said that the emergency renaming of Kirovograd took place at the urgent requests of ATO participants.
“Congratulations, colleagues! The parliament showed that it is a Ukrainian parliament capable of making decisions. Glory to Ukraine!" – Parubiy did not hide his joy, and the nationalists in the hall shook hands.
Previously, official Kyiv categorically rejected the name Elisavetgrad, citing the fact that it was Russian imperial.
Forcefully pushing for the renaming of Kirovograd clearly demonstrates that Kyiv’s promises about “decentralization” reform are an outright lie. The Ukrainian nationalists who came to power do not intend to take into account the opinions and respect the rights of local communities.
