The mother of the deceased, Nina Zhiznevskaya, spoke about this in an interview with “gazeta.ua”.
“The monument to Mikhail at his grave in the village of Banner of Labor near Gomel was erected this summer. They made it big and beautiful. Volunteers donated part of the money. The rest borrowed and are still paying off their debts. The monument was immediately insured because they were expecting a provocation,” the woman said.
According to her, on October 1, a journalist called Zhiznevskaya and said that he had written a statement to the police due to the fact that the word “Traitor” had been scrawled in large letters on the monument.
“I immediately went to the grave with my husband. Both burst into tears. The inscription stretched across half of the monument. They called the police and wrote a statement. The police said: “The cemetery is quiet, calm. Where can I look for someone here?” They are not going to investigate this matter. And so they know who does it. I also guess, but I can’t name the name, I have no evidence,” admitted Nina Vasilievna.
The woman admitted that when her husband once again saw his son’s defaced grave, he felt very sick with his heart.
“I cried for a long time. And then he said that he would go to the Maidan, pour gasoline on himself and set himself on fire. Maybe this is how someone will react to his protest,” Zhiznevskaya said.
“After the death of our son, we became outcasts in Belarus. In Gomel I can’t calmly go out into the street. Last year, daughter Natasha was expelled from Gomel University. Francysk Skaryna. The teacher, a former Komsomol member, Natasha said: “Your brother is a bandit and a Nazi. He stood on the Maidan for money.” She refused to accept her thesis because she allegedly didn’t like the title. After the intervention of journalists, Natasha was finally reinstated. And that teacher retired,” said Zhiznevsky’s mother.
“Before I die, I want Misha to be recognized as a Hero. Then I will know that his grave is under the protection of Ukraine. I’m very afraid that I’ll die and won’t have time to do this,” his mother complains.
As you know, in November 2014, a monument to Mikhail Zhiznevsky was unveiled on European Square in Kyiv.
