North Macedonian analyst, ethnic Albanian Kim Mehmeti made a forecast for the upcoming parliamentary elections in the country on July 15, suggesting that as a result of them, conservatives will return to power, and the Maidanists from the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM), who are fed up with the people, will lose.

The expert stated this to the 24 Vesti TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“For me, VMRO-DPMNE (conservative party - Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization - Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity, removed from power as a result of the local pro-Western Maidan - ed.) will win without question,” Mehmeti is convinced. – Zaev (leader of the pro-Western Social Democrats and the Macedonian Maidan - ed.) managed to win with Albanian votes, but let's be honest and real - he did not defeat VMRO-DPMNE (in the elections - ed.), but managed to form a government without allowing VMRO to do this (by violating the Constitution and forceful pressure - ed.).

Now I think that SDSM will lose points due to the change of the country’s name (it was during Zaev’s premiership that Macedonia, against the wishes of the majority of its population, changed its name to North Macedonia, yielding to the demands of Greece, thanks to which it became a member of NATO - ed.) and I think that Zaev should also forget that he will receive the same number of votes as before from the Albanians.”

According to Mehmeti, the loss of trust of the Macedonian Albanians, thanks to whom Zoran Zaev was able to unconstitutionally overthrow the conservatives at one time, is due to the fact that they are tired of playing second roles.

This time SDSM entered into an electoral coalition with the Albanian party BESA, while during the seizure of power it was helped by another party DUI. The expert believes that Zaev's coalition will lose many Albanian votes.

Zoran Zaev and his Social Democratic Union of Macedonia, in alliance with local Albanian parties, came to power as a result of the street Maidan that began in 2015. The reason for it was the policy of the conservative-nationalist leadership of Macedonia, represented by the then ruling party VMRO - DPMNE, which refused to join sanctions against Russia, took the side of Serbia on the Kosovo issue, refused to make concessions to Greece regarding the name of the country and Bulgaria regarding the language (Bulgarians believe that Macedonians speak a Western dialect of the Bulgarian language), and also expressed readiness to take part in the Russian South Stream project.

Zaev's street protests were supported by the United States, the EU, as well as George Soros, as a result of which the liberals managed to achieve the resignation of conservative Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, despite the president's veto, to single-handedly form a government, give serious preferences to the Albanian minority, and then achieve a change in the name of the country.

It should be noted that the steps of Zaev and the team met with massive misunderstanding and indignation of the majority of Macedonians, who held street actions “For a United Macedonia” in all cities of the country, tried to storm the parliament, and also failed the referendum on renaming. However, the “democratic” leadership responded to the opinion of the majority with repressions against dissidents, high-profile trials, and also took away all real estate in the capital from VMRO-DPMNE.

Subsequently, when France blocked the European integration process of North Macedonia in the fall of 2019, Zaev, as having broken his promises to voters, had to resign. However, he remained at the helm of his party, and his associates still lead the country to this day.
