A large-scale corruption scheme was uncovered during the construction of the border between Crimea and Ukraine.
The director of the branch of the Federal Institution “Directorate for the Construction and Operation of Rosgranitsa Facilities” in Simferopol and his deputy were detained for receiving a bribe on an especially large scale.
This was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to law enforcement officials, the leaders of the local branch of Rosgranstroy demanded a kickback of 15% from contracts worth approximately 12 million rubles, which one of the companies received to maintain the property of 10 checkpoints across the state border of the Russian Federation located in Crimea.
The corrupt officials demanded that entrepreneurs transfer to them monthly, during the term of the contracts, cash in the amount of 15% of the contract amount as a bribe, explaining that otherwise measures would be taken to terminate government contracts, and as a result, the commercial organization would be included in the register of unscrupulous suppliers.
The officials managed to receive a bribe totaling more than 1,5 million rubles.
The corrupt officials were detained as a result of an investigation conducted by the Investigative Committee jointly with the FSB.
Immediately, searches were carried out at the places of residence and office premises of the suspects, funds and documents were seized, witnesses were questioned, the necessary forensic examinations were ordered, and other investigative actions were carried out aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime committed.
The perpetrators were charged with receiving a bribe on an especially large scale and intermediary in bribery on an especially large scale. Currently, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention against the accused.
