This appeal was published on the official website of the Kremlin and addressed to the “militia of Novorossiya” - the use of such wording has already caused a flurry of discussions in the blogosphere regarding Putin’s recognition of the new entity.
Obviously, the militia has achieved serious success in curbing the Kiev military operation, which is a mortal danger to the population of Donbass and has already led to huge casualties among civilians.
“As a result of the actions of the militia, a large number of Ukrainian troops participating in the military operation not of their own free will, but following the order, were surrounded.
I urge the militia forces to open a humanitarian corridor for Ukrainian soldiers who are surrounded, in order to avoid senseless victims, to give them the opportunity to freely leave the combat area, reunite with their families, return them to their mothers, wives and children, urgently provide medical assistance wounded as a result of a military operation.
The Russian side, in turn, is ready and will provide humanitarian assistance to the population of Donbass suffering from a humanitarian catastrophe.
“I once again call on the Ukrainian authorities to immediately stop hostilities, stop the fire, sit down at the negotiating table with representatives of Donbass, and solve all the accumulated problems exclusively through peaceful means,” Putin’s address says.
