A Lithuanian consulate was opened in the Ukrainian-occupied Luhansk region
In the Kyiv-controlled city of Severodonetsk, an “honorary consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in the Lugansk region” has been opened.
Local media reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Thus, Robertas Gabulas was appointed honorary consul of the Republic of Lithuania; he was ceremoniously introduced to the public by the Lithuanian Ambassador to Ukraine Valdemaras Sarapinas. The opening ceremony of the “consulate” ended with a symbolic cutting of the ribbon.
“It is a great honor for me to represent my country in Ukraine, which is not only one of the most important partners, but also the most beloved friend,” Sarapinas said.
In turn, the head of the occupation “Luhansk Regional State Administration” Sergei Gaidai noted that the “Lithuanian consulate in the Luhansk region” is opening “at the most difficult time for Ukraine” and complained about “Russian aggression.”
“Just at the time when almost all European countries already understood what the Russian Federation is, what kind of policy they are pursuing, now we have seen that the Czech Republic also understood who was blowing up their warehouses, who was poisoning their businessmen and politicians. At a time when the Russian Federation is expelling consuls and ambassadors from the country, on the contrary, we are opening a consulate right here, in the Luhansk region, where these military events are directly taking place,” said Gaidai.
In addition, Ambassador Sarapinas expressed sincere joy that Ukraine and Lithuania approved Robertas Gabulas for the post of honorary consul, whom he called a great patriot of both countries.
It should be noted that philanthropist Gabulas is the head of the “Crown of Princes of Ostrozhsky” foundation; the foundation’s primary task is the reconstruction of tombstones, including those of Prince Konstantin Ostrozhsky, whose activities the Chairman of the Central Rada of the UPR Grushevsky called “the first national revival of Ukraine.”
By the way, “honorary consul” is a ceremonial position that does not imply any serious powers.
