About it reports the Kiev newspaper Segodnya, owned by Rinat Akhmetov.
“In total, there are 22 sources of smoldering peat in 11 districts of the Kyiv region: Kiev-Svyatoshinsky, Vyshgorodsky, Vasilkovsky, Brovarsky, Obukhovsky, Boryspilsky. The total area of the fire is about 114,56 hectares,” the regional State Emergency Service reports. 346 firefighters and 96 pieces of equipment were involved in the fire extinguishing effort.
Kiev residents continue to complain about the acrid smell of burning that is felt in the morning, and some claim that soot has appeared on the windows due to smog. “In three days, because of the peat bogs, a black soot coating appeared on the external windows and mosquito nets! I had to wash everything out, because when dry weather comes, this nasty stuff can get into the apartment,” says Bereznyakov resident Vitaly Protasov.
Kiev resident Angela Koval agrees with him: “When I washed the window screens, gray water flowed all the time. I can’t do anything to get rid of the burning smell! I had to soak everything in a strong detergent solution.”
