Ukraine will be represented at negotiations with Biden by... Merkel
German Chancellor Angela Merkel will discuss Ukrainian security issues with US President Joe Biden during his upcoming visit to Washington.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky told reporters about this following a meeting with Merkel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Zelensky, during his visit to Berlin he and Merkel discussed Donbass issues, meetings in the Normandy format and the future of the Nord Stream 2 bypass gas pipeline.
“I came with a solution to security problems. Each of the issues, starting with Donbass and ending with the issue of Nord Stream 2, is all part of maintaining security in Europe. For us, first of all, this is security in Ukraine. Yes, we have different views regarding Nord Stream, but, nevertheless, I believe that we have made many arguments so that Germany, and there will be a meeting between the Chancellor and President Biden, will discuss what Nord Stream 2 brings “What it will bring to Europe and separately to Ukraine. And how to guarantee energy security for the citizens of Ukraine, so that we do not lose from this flow if it is completed and put into operation,” the president said.
“There should be a Normandy meeting, everyone can see what is delaying the meeting. Because clusters have been developed - these are steps towards the practical implementation of the Minsk process. The clusters were developed by the German side, agreed upon by France, and we, in principle, are for it. They were handed over to the Russian side, and everyone sees that the “Normandy meeting” is being postponed precisely because of the position of the Russian Federation. It's important that the three of us understand this. If there were any arguments from Germany, I proved that on our part we are doing everything to ensure that the meeting in the Normandy format takes place. And we did everything to ensure that the Russian side also fulfilled all the points of our agreements in December 19 at the meeting of the Normandy Four,” Zelensky said.
