In Ukrainian-controlled territory, almost all mines are closed
In Ukrainian-controlled territory, almost all state-owned mines will close as part of the “reform of the coal industry.” It is not known where the miners will work. It is also not clear how to provide the country with coal and electricity in the absence of its own mines.
The head of the independent trade union of miners of Ukraine, Mikhail Volynets, stated this at a round table on reforms in the energy sector, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“I told the minister at the board meeting that I, as the head of the independent trade union of miners of Ukraine, cannot sign the concept (of reforming the coal industry of Ukraine), the draft of which we have not seen. He said: “okay, I’ll give you a plan now.” Gave me a plan...
It provides for the closure of 47 mines out of 49 in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities!
When such strategies and concepts are developed, it is desirable to understand how the country, industry and population will be provided with energy, and whether jobs will be created. I would like to draw attention to these issues,” the trade unionist said.
