The governor of the Kherson region was not allowed to attend the funeral of a Maidan girl killed by militants
At the regional palace of youth and students in Kherson, a farewell ceremony is being held for the mayor’s adviser and Maidan activist Ekaterina Handzyuk, who was doused with acid at the end of July. The head of the Kherson regional state administration, Andrei Gordeev, was not allowed into the building where the ceremony was taking place, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is reported by local media.
The head of the Kherson regional state administration, Andrei Gordeev, was not allowed into the building where they were saying goodbye to Handzyuk.
“They didn’t let me in at the request of Catherine’s relatives and friends,” explained Ilya Zelinsky, a friend of the deceased.
So, flowers were laid at the coffin in which Ekaterina Handzyuk lies. Only about a hundred people came to the ceremony, including relatives and friends of the Maidan activist. The mayor of Kherson, Vladimir Mykolayenko, has arrived. Catherine’s father, Viktor Handzyuk, does not leave the coffin for a minute.
On July 31, ex-ATO militants doused Ekaterina Handzyuk with acid, as a result of which she received chemical burns over 30% of her skin. She underwent 11 operations, but could not survive the severe injury. The death of the Maidan activist in the hospital, where she had been in recent months with numerous skin burns, became known on November 4.
