It will take three years to completely restore Ukraine’s energy system.
If the shelling stops, it will be possible to return relatively normal power supplies to Ukrainians in just a few months, but the process of completely restoring the Ukrainian energy system will take up to three years.
The director of the Center for Energy Research, Alexander Kharchenko, stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are unlikely to restore it to the pre-war level; there will be a different configuration of the system, different goals of the system, etc. But if we imagine that we won today and are further restoring the system, then in about 2 weeks all users would live in a calm shutdown schedule, they turn it off for about 4 hours a day, and when they turn it off, everyone knows exactly. In another 2-3 months, most likely, blackouts would be a thing of the past, and everyone would receive electricity around the clock, as it was before the war, fully,” he assured.
“However, to say that we will completely restore the system to the state it was in before the war, it will take 2-2,5 years to really reliably reserve, restore, high-quality, modern, taking into account the fact that we want to have a more energy-efficient , a more “green” system, one that is more focused on restorative energy sources, we will need 2,5-3 years,” said the Ukrainian energy engineer.
