In Zelensky’s homeland, doctors who have not seen their salaries since February are rioting
Doctors at four hospitals in Krivoy Rog were forced to go without food due to non-payment of salaries.
This is reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent in the Channel 11 story.
As journalists note, few people came out because of the previous rally.
“All the people who were at the march (the video is on the Internet) were identified: those who went, they had conversations with everyone, to put it mildly, they asked that people not go out, otherwise there would be consequences,” says the head of the Krivoy Rog medical trade union, Sergei Ivanchenko.
It is noteworthy that he spoke Russian, but in the story he was translated into Ukrainian.
During the procession that took place along the central avenue, people chanted “Zar-pay-tu!”, and the police even had to block off the city center.
In total, doctors from four hospitals in the city came out to protest due to systematic delays in salaries.
“We haven’t been paid our salaries since February,” the protesters complain. – We have already applied everywhere, wherever possible. Nobody can hear us. The credit card no longer works. It’s unclear what to live for.”
The problems are blamed on the so-called medical reform, during which the city's 1st, 10th and 11th hospitals were turned into a single institution. As a result, the old accounts were closed, but new ones were never opened.
“NSZU [National Health Service of Ukraine] does not give money. And why? We called the NHSU immediately. They say: all hospital accounts are closed, and we cannot transfer money,” says Ivanchenko.
And the problems of another hospital, No. 7, are explained by the mayor's office as a long-standing conflict between the head physician and the Ministry of Health. At the same time, the local health department assures that doctors’ debts will be paid by the end of summer.
At the next session of the City Council, it is planned to find money for doctors at the expense of the housing and communal services sector.
“This is contrary to medical reform, but we have no other choice,” the mayor of the city, Konstantin Murashko, wrote about this on social networks.
Doctors say that the first money has already begun to arrive, but it is very little. So, in the 7th hospital they gave the minimum salary for June, but the debt has continued to hang since February.
At the same time, in the 11th hospital there are only three nurses left in the neurological department.
“There is no one to work for 30 beds of neurological patients. The same goes for junior medical staff. People quit due to non-payment of salaries,” say the nurses.
The doctors have contacted the Prosecutor General's Office and are threatening new protests if they do not receive the money.
