In Zelensky's homeland, a memorial sign to the victims of the Holocaust was desecrated
In Krivoy Rog, the homeland of the current Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, a memorial sign in memory of 15 thousand local Jews killed during the Holocaust was desecrated.
This was announced by the head of the Ukrainian Jewish Committee Eduard Dolinsky, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports. According to the social activist, video cameras recorded a vandal who painted over the memorial inscription indicating in whose honor the memorial was erected.
Krivoy Rog TV channel “First City” reports that a video has appeared on the Internet in which CCTV cameras captured a vandal who painted a monument to the victims of the Holocaust. On the same day, the same young man left an insulting inscription addressed to the Russian president on the fence of a school located nearby.
The Israeli ambassador to Ukraine, Joel Lyon, also reported on the incident in his blog, emphasizing that the monument was desecrated on the eve of Holocaust Day.
The memorial has already been washed of paint and put in order. The police opened a criminal case under the article of intentional destruction of someone else's property.
Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that Zelensky may not go to Israel, where he was invited to participate in an event scheduled for January 23 dedicated to the memory of Jews killed by the Nazis.
The publication recalls that the former head of the information department of the Right Sector and a member of the previous Rada, Borislav Bereza, said that Zelensky set a condition for Israel: he will participate in the World Holocaust Remembrance Forum organized by Yad Vashem only if he is given the right to speak there. According to Bereza, Israel refused, and therefore Zelensky found himself “at a crossroads.”
As PolitNavigator reported, the ambassadors of Israel and Poland in Kyiv published a joint statement, in which the policy of glorifying the Nazis pursued in Ukraine was harshly criticized.
