Ukrainians responded to the increase in tariffs with “a bullet in their pocket”
Last year's increase in gas prices almost doubled led to an increase in tariffs and costs, after which the population's debt for utility bills increased from 8,8 to 23,4 billion hryvnia.

Director of the City Institute Alexander Sergienko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.
“In fact, the utilities did not receive any profit from this increase in tariffs. They received a drop in the level of payments and an increase in the debt of the population. If since 2000 the level of household payments has never fallen below 90%, then last year it dropped to 82,8%. This is a historical low. The desire to grab more money led to the fact that they ended up with money in their pockets or in their accounts.
Now the government is stepping on the same rake - let’s raise tariffs further, we must maintain our profits. And no one thinks what this will lead to,” Sergienko said.
