This morning, 100 armed men in trucks and jeeps arrived in the village of Alekseevka, Sarnensky district, reports Charivne. They stopped in the center of the village and informed passersby that from now on only they would control the extraction of amber. One of them allegedly introduced himself as Verkhovna Rada deputy Vladimir Prodivus.
Under pressure from local residents, the unknown people fled to the base where they lived. According to media reports, its owner is the former head of the Rivne Regional State Administration Vasily Bertash. The villagers managed to stop the militants and seized their cars.
“A lot of automatic weapons, AKMs, ultrasound devices, night vision devices were confiscated, at least 3 trucks were burned, and several SUVs had their tires pierced. The people’s deputy, by the way, was released; according to him, he came to legalize amber mining,” the Vse website quotes an eyewitness.
15 militants were finally detained, others escaped. According to the documents found, all the men are mainly athletes from the Zhytomyr and Kyiv regions.
As a result of the shooting, five local residents were wounded - very seriously. They were hospitalized with stab and gunshot wounds.
Villagers are outraged why law enforcement officers allowed so many armed people into the region at a time when locals are stopped several times a day and thoroughly checked at checkpoints.
The police have not officially commented on the incident.
