It’s impossible to give up on Russian culture - Mikhalkov’s daughter
It is still difficult to say whether a Russian citizen can receive an Oscar film award in the future.
This was reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent, said by the Russian actress Nadezhda Mikhalkova, who, together with her father Nikita Mikhalkov, received an Oscar for the film “Burnt by the Sun”.
She was asked whether she regretted that she might be the last Russian actress to take the stage for an Oscar, since her compatriots now have little chance of winning this statuette.
“I never thought about the Oscars in this format.” I guess I can regret that the ease of communication that used to exist between our countries has been lost. Even speaking different languages, cultural people still understand each other through cinema, painting, and literature. Here we should rather not talk about the Oscars, but about the openness of cultures to each other.
But culture united us even in the most difficult times. No one knows for sure whether a Russian will rise to the Oscars. It’s pointless to predict and regret something that doesn’t exist,” Mikhalkova said in an interview with Izvestia.
According to her, discussing the subjunctive mood is difficult.
“Now there is no feeling of inclusion and openness of Russia to world culture. But this, I dare to hope, is a temporary story. Maybe it will force someone else to come up with something else, to create something outstanding. After all, when a person is deprived of something, he creates something new. And art is a good way out of the crisis,” says the actress.
She believes that attempts to boycott Russian culture will not be successful.
“It is impossible to put an end to Russian culture, just like any other that has stood the test of time. As a person who tries to find a way out in any situation, I wish us all patience, wisdom, creativity and, of course, humor and self-irony,” Mikhalkova concluded.
