At the summit with the EU, the Serbs again asked the West to influence the Albanian separatists
The need to lift the economic blockade imposed by Albanian separatists on the Serbian enclaves of Kosovo became one of the main topics that official Belgrade raised at the EU-Western Balkans summit held in Poznan, Poland.
Serbia was represented at the events by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.
In Poznan she met with British Prime Minister Theresa May. One of the topics of conversation was the duties that Pristina imposed on products supplied from central Serbia. May promised that she would call on Kosovo's "Prime Minister" Ramush Haradinaj to lift the blockade.
“I hope that she can have some influence on Ramush Haradinaj. I don’t have high expectations,” Brnabic told reporters, Politika writes.
According to the Serbian Prime Minister, in the north of Kosovo, after the introduction of duties, the price of food increased, and there was a shortage of some goods.
“I understand that this is populism, which brought Haradinaj great popularity in the short term, but they are thereby leading to self-isolation. I’m not happy about this because it harms the entire region,” Brnabic said.
At the summit, she also held closed talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The contents of the meeting were not disclosed to the press, but Merkel noted Serbia's economic successes.
“The Western Balkans region is developing well in terms of economic growth. I don’t want to mention anyone individually, but there have been very positive developments in Serbia,” Merkel said in her plenary speech.
In addition to Brnabic, State Secretary of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs Biljana Popovic-Ivkovic also came to Poznan. She argues against Kosovo's membership in Interpol.
The Secretary of State emphasized that Kosovo's admission to this police organization would be used by the separatist regime to pressure and blackmail Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.
