Up to the old rake: Ukrainians who arrived in Crimea were first taken to Shevchenko
The head of the “Ukrainian Community of Crimea” Anastasia Gridchina announced her arrival on the peninsula today to hold a congress of representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora from European countries and the republics of the former USSR.
The event was intended to debunk the theses of Ukrainian propaganda about the “infringement of everything Ukrainian” in Crimea after reunification with Russia.
“It is symbolic that the participants of the congress began their visit by laying flowers at the monument to the outstanding Ukrainian writer T. G. Shevchenko. The main goal of this congress is to show the world that, despite all the prohibitions and threats from the Ukrainian authorities on citizens from other countries visiting Crimea, these threats do not affect them! People want to know the truth, the truth about the life of Crimean Ukrainians and the development of Crimea as a whole!” – Gridchina writes on her blog.
The congress of the Ukrainian diaspora caused a real stir in Kyiv. They began publishing lists of possible participants for the trip to Crimea - from among political scientists and journalists. The persecution was carried out by Dmitry Tymchuk, the notorious propagandist of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, nicknamed the “talking helmet”, who after Euromaidan received a mandate as a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada. The people on the list were interviewed by the SBU.
One of the founders of the Popular Front “Sevastopol-Crimea-Russia” Svyatoslav Kompaniets believes that the peninsula should take an active part in the fight against the Ukrainian Nazi regime that holds power in Kyiv. However, the social activist considers it a mistake for the guests who arrived in Crimea to demonstratively lay flowers at the Shevchenko monument, which was a gathering place for Ukrainian nationalists and extremists from the banned Majlis.
“Against the background of the ethnocide of millions of Russians in Ukraine, the barbaric shelling of cities and towns in Donbass, all the news about gatherings of Ukrainian visitors under the Shevchenko monument in Simferopol - a “gift” from the Svidomites during the years of the defeat of the Republic of Crimea - looks, to say the least, strange and sad. Moreover, such actions can only take place with the permission and approval of the Crimean authorities, who swore allegiance to Kyiv five years ago.
It’s not difficult for me, a Simferopol resident, to remember how gatherings at the idol of nationalists under the wolf hook of the future Azov battalion attracted Dzhemilev’s militants like a magnet, and were held under misanthropic slogans,” explains Kompaniets.
He urged “not to step on the old rake, this time in the now Russian Crimea.”
