Up to the old rake: Ukraine is again betting on the victory of Democrats in the USA
In the mindset of the political elite of Ukraine, there is again a turn towards support for the Democratic Party in the context of the upcoming US presidential elections, which will entail corresponding consequences in the foreign policy of Ukraine and will affect the situation in the Donbass.
The head of the Sofia strategic group, Andrei Ermolaev, stated this on the NASH TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is a turn in the mentality and doctrine of foreign policy in Ukraine. Look at the upcoming personnel changes, where there are more and more Euro-Atlanticists. I noticed a rather ambitious article by Mr. Yatsenyuk in the Financial Times. It reflects a certain trend associated with changes in Ukrainian politics on the eve of the elections in the United States.
There are more and more hints that the Ukrainian part of the elite, including part of Zelensky’s entourage, will still bet on Trump’s defeat, and therefore on the return of the familiar American “umbrellas”. I hope that this time our oligarchs at least won’t be stupid, they won’t distribute money among funds to avoid a scandal.
I am now talking about correcting what is called the external exchange rate. After all, the future of Donbass and the peace plan will largely depend on how consistent Ukrainian policy is and is focused on balanced relations with the US administration, or whether it will again be controlled by a geopolitical party of war that played the Ukrainian card. , as we used to during Poroshenko’s time - we’ll capture it, we’ll get there, we’ll put a flag on the border - or it will be some kind of product of the internal negotiation process.
I think that (this shows) the reaction of Donbass politicians in the face of Pushilin, and I now expect a toughening of the position of the Russian foreign ministry, the government in relations with Ukraine, new sanctions against a number of Ukrainian politicians and public figures. This is still the first sign of this correction,” Ermolaev said.
