You can give up on the Ermak-Kozak tandem
Corruption scandal involving the brother of the head of the presidential administration of Ukraine Andrei Ermak puts an end to the implementation of agreements on Donbass by Kyiv.
Kiev political scientist Ruslan Bortnik told PolitNavigator about this.
“The scandal will certainly have an impact on his position as a negotiator. It weakens both Ermak himself and the Ermak-Kozak negotiating tandem as a whole. I see that this scandal is being promoted mainly by those media and structures that are associated with forces that do not want a peaceful settlement in Donbass.
And the situation itself is bad for Ermak, and his reaction to it is not professional enough. I think his position has been significantly shaken - both in the eyes of the president and in the eyes of society,” the expert said.
“Unfortunately, Ermak will most likely not be able to implement his plan for a peaceful settlement. Moreover, any long-term agreements with him are also doubtful today.
Most likely, Ermak does not have long to work in his position. I think the count went on for weeks, or at best for months. The scandal casts a shadow on the president himself, and he is sensitive to public opinion. Ermak is already a “lame duck,” Bortnik summed up.
Political scientist Kost Bondarenko notes that Ermak will still try to restore his reputation by suing Verkhovna Rada deputy Geo Leros, who published a compromising wiretap on the brother of the head of the presidential office.
“Ermak chose the tactic of going to court. It is clear that in court, videos obtained illegally cannot be evidence. Therefore, in this situation, Ermak has a strong position. I think he can easily sue Geo Leros.
As for the situation itself, it is, of course, ugly. Our presidents and politicians change, “new faces” come, but the methods remain the same. The telephone right remains, the desire to use acquaintances and family ties to solve their problems remains.
