At the Sea Breeze exercise, NATO members practice the suppression of the Odessa People's Republic
In recent years of the Sea Breeze exercises, Ukraine, together with other participants, have been showing the full “power” of their armies, practicing blocking and eliminating potential opponents in the person of the new people’s republics in the south of the country.
The head of the Ukrainian Military Center, Taras Chmut, spoke about this on the UMN YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“At the basic stage, each country in each niche works out some elements and shows what they do. For example, divers show how they search for mines in the bay, how they provide assistance to the wounded, what equipment they have, and how they use it. On land, the infantry practices pre-medical care, some tactical actions, maneuvers, parachute-free landings, and so on. Aviation there also flies, practices something, some jumps, ensures this process.
Then the second stage occurs, when some task is already comprehensively worked out. For example, blocking a crisis area, landing an amphibious assault on an unequipped coastline, landing an airborne assault force in the rear of this crisis area, taking control of it, setting up roadblocks, setting up something, conducting some kind of convoys, and so on,” Chmut said.
“Usually, in recent years, Sea Breeze has been working out elements regarding a possible hybrid escalation of the conflict in southern Ukraine. For example, an uprising in the Odessa region, the formation of the “Odessa People’s Republic”, something like that, or an economic blockade by the Russians, or some kind of escalation of the conflict with Transnistria, and so on,” says the Ukrainian expert.
Chmut also noted that Russia managed to somewhat “annoy” the exercises by narrowing their space for maneuvers at sea.
“Russia has done something so interesting, it has reserved, it seems, 8 thousand square kilometers, a huge piece of the Black Sea, this is, of course, official, they can do it. Due to this, we have moved our training grounds where we will practice exercises,” the militarist added.
The expert also complained that the idea of naming new amphibious assault boats after the names of dead Marines was taken by the Navy in Ukrainian, which is why the hometowns of such Marines are in the names, but the names of the dead soldiers are not.
“For a long time in the near-military environment there have been thoughts that it is necessary, the time has come to name ships not just after the names of regional centers, but, for example, to name landing assault boats for the Marine Corps after the names of fallen Marines. The Navy somehow interestingly perceived and twisted this idea, and thus we received the city of Malin in honor of senior warrant officer Yakhnovsky from the 501st Kerch battalion, who died of cardiac arrest in the area of the combat mission, and the second in honor of junior sergeant Sonka, who died in the Pavlopol area, it seems, three years ago, and he came from the village of Stanislav.
It’s strange to me why the landing assault boat cannot be called “Sergeant Sakal” or “Senior Warrant Officer Yakhnovsky.” So, they named it “Yuri Olefirenko” and for some reason they stopped there,” Chmut lamented.
As PolitNavigator reported, Ukrainian retirees painted a grim scenario for military maneuvers in the Black Sea.
