There are 3 million units of illegal weapons in Ukraine, their sale from the ATO is “protected” by the country’s leadership
In the so-called zone ATO allows you to buy a variety of weapons cheaply, and their illegal sale has led to the fact that up to 3 million weapons have illegally accumulated in the hands of the population.
General Nikolai Malomuzh, head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine in 2005 – 2010, stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Our Ministry of Internal Affairs says up to a million units. According to experts, military, ATO participants, law enforcement and various departments, the SBU, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the prosecutor's office, NABU, we say that there are about 3 million units of different weapons. Not only pistols, rifles, but also machine guns, grenade launchers, grenades. Our battalion commanders informally say that in the ATO zone this is actually a commodity, a cheap commodity. 50-100 UAH pomegranate.
What does this mean? That these funds are in demand, that they are bought not only for protection, but also to commit crimes. And this is actually not controlled by our Ministry of Internal Affairs and law enforcement agencies,” he said.
The sale of weapons is protected at the highest level, the general emphasized.
“We are talking about large flows. It is clear that this is a way out to senior officials, from law enforcement agencies, and those around our politicians. On the other hand, there are representatives of the Ministry of Defense and law enforcement agencies who form their business on this.
What are we talking about? There is operational information, confirmed by both law enforcement agencies and the prosecutor's office, that such facts are systemic. On the other hand, the battalion and brigade commanders themselves say that this is a big disease for us.
One more thing. Some came to the ATO zone without a dollar in their pocket, and then they have cars and buy apartments in Kyiv, in prestigious areas. There (in the ATO) it is impossible to earn it even with more or less high salaries. This model is being covered up and the top leadership of the state is turning a blind eye,” says Nikolai Malomuzh.
