This was reported by the press service of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Ukraine following the round table “The largest cyber attack on Ukrainian business: how to protect yourself?”, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“According to forecasts, in a few weeks Ukraine should expect a new wave of cyber attacks aimed at computer networks running on the Linux operating system, which accounts for 70% of the market: both banking and government,” the report says.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry reported that an anti-crisis center for business cyber protection will be created on their basis. Specialists from this center will provide free consultations on how to combat virus attacks.

“Starting from June 27, 2017, lawyers of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry have already provided more than 1000 consultations on applications to confirm force majeure circumstances in connection with a cyber attack. We still continue to receive more than 100 requests for consultations every day. In this regard, we initiated a survey for members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry “how did the cyber attack affect your business?” Based on its results, we have the following statistics: 23% of surveyed members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry identified the damage caused by a cyber attack as maximum, 40% partially restored their functionality, 61% believe that a force majeure certificate will save them, and 60% of respondents are ready to allocate up to 10% of the profit goes to cybersecurity,” said Gennady Chizhikov, President of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In turn, Dmitry Fomin, IT Director of Eastern Beverage Trading, in order to minimize possible losses from cyber attacks, among other things, advises businessmen not to store backup copies on the same disk with the main data.

“Digital hygiene is the strict and strict implementation of all procedures prescribed by the main software developers. For example, Microsoft issues recommendations and security updates that must be followed without fail,” he said.

“If you store a backup copy on the same disk array as your main data, then if it gets damaged, you will lose all the information. Therefore, copies must be kept separately from the main business. The best option is a cloud service,” he noted.

The cyber police of Ukraine counted more than 3000 reports received over the past week about computer networks being infected with an encryption virus.
