Ukraine expects to begin exporting natural gas after 2020 by increasing production growth within the country, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This goal is contained in the published “Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2035 “Safety, Energy Efficiency, Competitiveness”, approved by order of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Government Portal reports.
“The main measures to implement strategic goals in the gas sector: until 2020 and beyond, the implementation of the necessary measures to meet Ukraine’s needs for volumes of natural gas produced by itself with the subsequent possibility of starting its export,” the document says.
The prerequisites for the growth of domestic production should be: balanced government regulation and minimization of political influence on gas producing companies; attracting foreign investors and partners using modern technologies; improvement of accounting policies.
The strategy provides for the need to increase the volume of geological exploration work to ensure an increase in the resource base, an increase in the volume of exploration and production drilling, in particular at deep horizons, as well as improving and ensuring the stability of the fiscal regime.
The authors of the document also note the need to establish market prices for gas for all categories of consumers with the further introduction of a system of targeted subsidies and monetization.
