In Ukraine they are afraid of Macron's loss
Ukraine supports the current French President Emmanuel Macron and is betting on him in the second round of presidential elections, which will take place on April 24. Macron's closest rival, opposition politician Marine Le Pen, is an unacceptable option for Ukraine because it takes a pro-Russian position.
Ukrainian Ambassador to France Vadim Omelchenko stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would take the liberty of saying that we expect the incumbent president to win. Because the coming to power of the pro-Russian politician Marine Le Pen - well, you understand the consequences for Europe in general, and for Ukraine, including. That is, Macron, he is our consistent ally, France, under his leadership, is doing a lot to help us, the solidarity is incredible, including the French people.
Of course, we need to maintain this level of support and solidarity. Of course, we associate this with French President Macron,” Omelchenko reasoned.
Let us remember that the day before, Marine Le Pen, in an interview with French journalists, stated that she supports the choice of the Crimeans made in March 2014 and considers the peninsula to be Russian territory, and is also not worried about the ban on entry into Ukraine.
“There was a referendum in Crimea. Crimea was Ukrainian for only 27 years, all the inhabitants were Russian, they wanted to join Russia,” she said.
