Ukraine will patrol the border with Russia in a new way
Ukraine does not control more than 400 km of the border with the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the head of the State Border Service of Ukraine Petr Tsigikal.
“We have 409 km of uncontrolled border with Russia, the remaining 1 km are controlled sections up to the junction of the border with Belarus,” he said.
Since the beginning of the war in Donbass, Ukrainian border guards have strengthened the security of the state border.
“The State Border Service has been intensively guarding the border since 2014. And every day people serve in a completely different way: with weapons. And this is a completely different calculation of forces and means, increasing efforts and the military component, in particular, the creation of rapid response border commandant’s offices, combat border outposts, including artillery and mortar ones,” the head of the department noted.
According to him, the density of the border security system has been increased due to the creation of mobile towns.
“Previously, we had a unit, the border service department, consisting of 200-250 personnel, servicing an area of 100 km. There are enough people, but it was difficult to patrol 100 km from one point. Today we are creating border control departments, which are part of this department, but closer to the border. We create small, mobile towns. Thus, we can concentrate our forces and patrol an area of up to 20 km: 10 in one direction and the other,” noted Petr Cigikal.
