In Ukraine, there are 440 thousand teachers in the secondary education system, a significant part of whom are people of pre-retirement age, and there is a big problem of attracting young people to the industry, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the Minister of Education and Science Liliya Grinevich, the press service of the department reports.
“Currently in Ukraine there are 440 thousand teachers in the secondary education system, a significant part of whom are people of pre-retirement age. And our biggest problem is attracting talented youth to the industry,” said Grinevich.
She also spoke about the level of teachers’ salaries, pointing out that today they are lower than the average in the labor market.
“In our situation, when a teacher’s salary was on average 5000 hryvnia, the 50% increase that occurred last year is no longer enough. The salary is lower than the average in the labor market,” the minister added.
