There is an atmosphere of fear, chaos and impending terror in Ukraine
The fear factor will be decisive in the upcoming presidential elections in Ukraine.
Political strategist Andrei Zolotarev said this on air on the UkrLife TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Using the example of the overthrow of Poltava Mayor Alexander Mamai, the political scientist explained in what ways the current government plans to extend its rule.
“The authorities understand that a more or less successful mayor has a rating several times higher than any politician at the national level. Mamai’s rating in Poltava is slightly higher than 30%, Poroshenko’s rating, according to the most optimistic forecasts for him, is about 8%. The authorities are interested in keeping mayors on the hook. Keep on the hook for criminal cases, under constant pressure. That is, a step to the right, a step to the left is an attempt to escape, a jump on the spot is a provocation,” the political scientist said.
As the expert said, Ukrainian politicians are busy forming power blocs consisting of former and current militants who took part in hostilities.
“The power factor. Everyone, even majoritarian deputies today, are busy forming their own private power resource. They come to an agreement with ATO officers and volunteer soldiers. But the power factor is the gun hanging on the wall. In what act will it shoot?” says Zolotarev.
He did not rule out the possibility of bloody provocations that could frighten the population of Ukraine and force them to vote for the candidate desired by the authorities.
"Intimidation. Since there are no achievements, only one thing remains - fear. I pray to God that this remains rhetoric. For the president, the word has been devalued; presidential pomp will not have the same effect it had in 2014. It's already boring. Someone may have a bright idea - to do a dirty deed, to provoke something that will scare them. After all, it is necessary to objectify fear, to materialize it. And this is what I am very afraid of,” the expert concluded.
