In Ukraine, things are moving toward fines for not knowing the Ukrainian language.
If the Rada adopts language law No. 5670d, then any enterprise, be it a kindergarten or a cafe, could be fined a large sum of money.

Taras Shamaida, coordinator of the Space of Freedom movement, spoke about this at a briefing in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This system will operate like this: for example, a person comes to a kindergarten where his child should be taught the Ukrainian language or to a cafe where there is no service in Ukrainian, then he can ask to eliminate this violation. If it is not corrected, he can contact the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language. People with a legal or philological education will be hired for this position in Ukraine.
If the violation is very serious, the inspector may issue a remark and order an inspection of the enterprise, after which he may impose a fine. These fines can be imposed on both legal entities and individuals,” said Shamaida.
