Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We do not exclude large-scale information manipulations and provocations in the future. We do not rule out military provocations, among other things. Moreover, Bloomberg revealed the plans, the material was submitted with reference to the Olympic Games. They shot wide and may have hit themselves. Because everyone remembered 2008, also the Olympics, also the Olympics in China, only in the summer. Who then committed the provocation, aggression, who attacked whom? Let me remind you that this was Saakashvili’s aggression, I don’t even want to say Tbilisi, because it was not the people of Georgia who did it, it was carried out by Saakashvili, who attacked South Ossetia,” Zakharova said.
She also recalled the chronology of events in the summer of 2008.
“What happened a month before this aggression, which unfolded at the entrance to the Olympic Games in Beijing? Visit by the US Secretary of State, then Condoleezza Rice, Tbilisi. A press conference with Saakashvili, during which they talked about the advantages of NATO, about the plans that the United States has for Georgia in this direction, a lot was said. Exactly a month has passed since that moment. This visit took place from July 9 to July 10, 2008, when the aggression happened, you remember very well, in fact, in the first days of the Olympics. That’s all, here’s a classic story of preparing multi-level provocations,” concluded the Foreign Ministry representative.
