In Ukraine, they still cannot identify the 300 soldiers killed in Donbass
In Ukraine, as of today, more than 300 servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces who died in the Donbass remain unidentified, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Health Issues, Presidential Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs Olga Bogomolets on Facebook.
“Another 307 dead remain unidentified, whose profiles are stored in the database. “I urge relatives of those missing in Donbass to take a DNA test in their region by contacting the main department of the National Police of the region, where the relevant working groups work to receive citizens’ complaints about missing persons in Donbass and organize DNA examinations,” she wrote.
According to her, as of early April 2018, 554 dead military personnel had already been identified by DNA. Bogomolets also emphasized that today the database stores more than 1,4 thousand biological samples of relatives of missing persons and 2,1 thousand biological samples of fragments of unidentified bodies, which, according to research results, relate to 861 individuals.
It should be noted that DNA examination makes it possible to establish the identities of the deceased by comparing the DNA profiles of body fragments with those of relatives. The State Research Expert Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is responsible for maintaining the DNA map database.
