In Ukraine, co-religionists from the Moscow Patriarchate obscured the “inconvenient” quote from Lomachenko
Boxer from Ukraine Vasily Lomachenko said that he is “Russian Orthodox.” It was said in interview American magazine The Ring – the most authoritative world publication dedicated to boxing.
The original quote reads like this: “I am Russian Orthodox and it's helped me become more disciplined in my life"(I am Russian Orthodox and this has helped me become more disciplined in life").
However, the website “Union of Orthodox Journalists”, controlled by the Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC (Moscow Patriarchate), was “embarrassed” to quote in full the words of its co-religionist, who does a lot to popularize the same UOC (MP). The recognition of Lomachenko’s “Russianness” was “omitted.” That's how it is sounds from Ukrainian “Orthodox journalists”: “Lomachenko added that he is an Orthodox believer, “and this helped him become more disciplined in life.”
Surprisingly, even the traditionally untruthful Uniates turned out to be closer to the truth in their note about Lomachenko’s interview than their Orthodox colleagues. In the news article “Boxer Lomachenko told how the Moscow Patriarchate influenced him,” the Uniate Religious Information Service writes: “I am a parishioner of the Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, and this has helped me become more disciplined in my life,” Lomachenko said». And although the ethnonym “Russian” is also absent here, the meaning of the Uniate message is more accurate.
