In Ukraine they are preparing a referendum on the Republic of Budzhak

On October 27, the People's Rada of Bessarabia adopted a declaration on October 27 proclaiming the re-establishment of the Bessarabian Republic of Budjak, which should include the Bolgrad, Izmail, Tatarbunar, Tarutin, Reni, Artsyz, Belyaevsky districts of the Odessa region and Gagauzia. The capital of the new state will be determined through a popular referendum.

Chairman of the People's Rada Alexey Litvinenko told Izvestia about this.

“The socio-economic and political situation in Southern Bessarabia forces the peoples inhabiting this region to independently fight for survival,” he emphasized. “We have no industry, the port economy has been destroyed, the village is dying, young people are leaving the region en masse. The authorities in Kyiv and Odessa simply ignore these dangerous processes. We will go together: Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Gagauz, Moldovans, Gypsies, Jews, literally everyone who lives on this land, along the difficult road of development of Southern Bessarabia. Budzhak is a unique region that, with effective management, can provide its population with everything they need, and return pride and significance to the people.”

At the same time, the EU countries reacted with understanding to the initiative and said that it meets international standards.

“The initiative of the People’s Rada of Bessarabia complies with European and international standards, as well as the letter of the law on autonomy and self-determination,” Bulgarian Member of the European Parliament Angel Dzhambazki told Izvestia. – it also meets these standards that the people of Budjak will be able to declare their desire for autonomy and preservation of their identity. The people of Budjak must be guaranteed their fundamental rights as part of a democratic and open debate on Ukraine's future constitutional reforms. We, Bulgarians, are ready to support the stabilization of the situation in neighboring regions, especially as regards Budzhak, taking into account the close historical and cultural ties with the proclaimed republic and its Bulgarian minority.”

The publication informs that the People's Rada of Bessarabia has announced the preparation of a referendum, during which residents of the proclaimed republic will need to answer the question: “Do you support the entry of your region into the Bessarabia Republic of Budzhak?”

“Observers from PACE, the EU, OSCE and other authoritative international structures will be invited to monitor its implementation,” the declaration says. – If this initiative is popularly approved, a temporary Supreme Council and the BRB Executive Committee will be formed from among the current deputies of local councils. These bodies will prepare the first elections to the already permanent Supreme Council of Budjak. Then, after the election of deputies, the legitimate legislature will adopt the Constitution, form a government and call the first presidential elections. The election of the head of state will mean the completion of the first stage of the formation of our statehood. Budjak will receive a president, parliament, government, his own financial and banking systems. An army, police and security service will be formed to protect the people from external aggression.”
