Ukraine is looking for 20 billion for teacher salaries
The Ministry of Education and Science, together with the Ministry of Finance, is looking for additional funds to increase teachers’ salaries, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the Minister of Education and Science Anna Novosad, the press service of the department reports.
“Now, by the second reading, we must, together with the Ministry of Finance, with the Prime Minister, with people’s deputies, understand to what extent we can increase these wages. They need to be found somewhere, so by the second reading we will think about what sources of income we can find these funds from, and how we can systematically move towards increasing wages. We have several options on how to approach this resolution,” the minister noted.
According to her, according to calculations by the Ministry of Education and Science, about 19 billion UAH are needed to increase wages next year, according to calculations by the Ministry of Finance, this will require 45 billion UAH.
In the meantime, as Novosad noted, in the draft budget, within the framework of the maximum expenditures that were communicated to the Ministry of Finance back in August, the volume of expenditures on teachers’ salaries remained at this year’s level, taking into account indexation. At the same time, according to the law, until 2023 it is necessary to increase teachers’ salaries to 4 living wages.
In July of this year, the government decided to increase wages for education workers.
