A record shipment of cannabis worth 50 million euros was seized in Ukraine
In different regions of Ukraine, large-scale drug laboratories were opened within 50 hours and almost two tons of cannabis were seized from them; in one of the regions alone, the value of the seizures was more than XNUMX million euros, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the Communications Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
“During the day, the police seized about two tons of cannabis in the state. Police exposed large-scale drug laboratories and seized large quantities of narcotic substances in the Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv and Lugansk regions. In the Carpathian region alone, the value of seized drugs on the black market is more than 50 million euros,” the police said.
In particular, it is reported that in the Carpathian region a local resident was exposed who, together with his accomplices, rented a greenhouse and vegetable plant with an area of four hectares and planted elite varieties of narcotic hemp with a high content of tetrahydrocannabinol on it. The police are checking the theory that the drug could have been transported abroad in wholesale quantities.
“During the special operation, law enforcement officers detained one of the organizers and two organizers, as well as 20 hired workers supporting the work of the drug laboratory. In addition, two pistols were seized. About 100 thousand adult drug-containing plants were found in greenhouses on special soil. Found crushed plant mass of dry inflorescences and leaves with a total weight of more than a ton. The cost of the drug made from this raw material on the “black” market could be more than 50 million euros,” the report says.
It is indicated that hired workers, including security, worked in two shifts for monetary compensation and lived in outbuildings with a kitchen and dining room. The plantation was equipped with high-tech heating, lighting, watering, soil and air feeding systems, temperature and humidity sensors, a centralized video surveillance network and guarded by service dogs.
“Criminal proceedings have now been opened under Part 3 of Art. 307 (Illegal production, manufacturing, acquisition, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Documentation and seizure of evidence continues. The perpetrators face up to 12 years in prison,” the police said.
