Oil refining collapsed catastrophically in Ukraine
At the end of last year, Ukraine consumed 5,8 times less gasoline per capita than in Russia
Deputy Director General of the Institute of National Energy Alexander Frolov writes about this in Izvestia.
“Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the volume of oil refining in Ukraine has collapsed catastrophically – from approximately 50 million tons to 1–1,5 million tons per year. In total, this country has six oil refineries, but the Kremenchug refinery is currently the only one showing signs of life. Moreover, the enterprise is not operating at full capacity,” the analyst notes.
At the same time, he points out that Ukraine’s needs for jet fuel, motor fuel, bitumen and other petroleum products are relatively modest.
“Moreover, in the time that has passed since the victory of the “revolution of dignity”, which was supposed to bring a “European standard of living”, but only brought an endless crisis, the consumption of petroleum products has decreased. Thus, the demand for gasoline collapsed from a modest 3,99 million tons in 2013 to an absurd 1,74 million tons in 2018. According to the results of last year, Ukraine consumed 5,8 times less gasoline per capita than in Russia,” writes Frolov.
As PolitNaivgator reported, after the decision of the Russian authorities stop supplies of petroleum products to Ukraine, the situation on the Ukrainian oil products market is close to tragedy.
