In Ukraine they want to auction off defense plants
The National Security and Defense Council, together with the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada, are exploring the possibility at the legislative level of allowing the privatization of state-owned defense enterprises, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexander Turchynov announced this at a briefing on Tuesday, the department’s press service reports.
“I would like to inform you that we are actively working with both the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada, in particular with the relevant committees, to lift any restrictions on the privatization of state-owned defense enterprises, as well as investment, foreign investment in these enterprises,” he said .
Turchynov added that for now this is strictly limited by current legislation.
“It is important that these measures to liberalize the foreign economic activities of Ukrainian defense industrial enterprises, on the one hand, will significantly strengthen their positions, development prospects, competitiveness and operational efficiency. On the other hand, expert control will not be weakened,” said the NSDC Secretary.
According to him, the activities of all subjects of this market will comply with all international agreements signed by Ukraine.
According to Turchinov, such measures will save budget funds, as well as make the defense segment more transparent and efficient.
